Iā€™m not giving any in person courses or talks right now. These might resume again after COVID-19.

Courses and Talks

I've created a multi-day course and a few shorter talks that cover the basics of control theory, systems engineering, and scientific communication.  I would love to come speak at your company or university and help spread the excitement and passion I have for control engineering. Check out the descriptions of the talks below and send me a message through the contact link if you are interested in booking something or would like more information.

Looking for something that's a different length or topic?  Let me know! If it's within my expertise I may be able to help.

Control systems engineering workshop

This 1 or 2-day course focuses on a practical and intuitive understanding of control systems. The goal is to generate excitement and interest for control engineering by exploring topics on real hardware and presenting them in a way that is relevant to a working controls engineer.  This course addresses the question of 'why' we approach control problems a certain way in addition to the 'how' and 'what' of solving problems.

ideas behind watchable educational videos

This 1-hour talk is a personal look at how I create my "Control System Lecture" videos on YouTube.  I cover why I think my videos resonate with viewers, how videos are part of a balanced educational diet, and a simple way to get started making your own videos. My goal is to arm the audience with the knowledge needed to create watchable videos and motivate them to start sharing their unique expertise with the world!

Control systems in everyday life

This 1-hour talk introduces the idea of control systems to the audience by relating complex ideas back to everyday human experiences.  No math. No complicated theory.  I cover what it means to control something, how the audience can think about any goal in their life in terms of guidance, navigation, and control, and how simple feedback systems can even generate the complexities of human emotion.
